Fun Places Around Norman, OK

August 1st, 2022 by

School has started back. For those of us with children, that means no more road trips until the next break. The beginning of the school year doesn’t have to mean the end of adventures for 2022. Norman is a good size and there are plenty of places around town that you may have never visited. We at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman, Oklahoma compiled a quick list for you. Let’s see what’s around Norman to check out!

Sam Noble Museum

First up is the Sam Noble Museum at the University of Oklahoma. Since classes are starting back up, it may be easier to justify spending a fun day out if it’s also an educational day out. The Sam Noble Museum does a great job at combing the two. From current exhibits like The Bearded Lady Project: Challenging the Face of Science to permanent projects like the Hall of World Cultures, the Sam Noble Museum is full of wonder and fun facts that’ll help all visitors understand the world around them. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Find admission prices and plan your next visit.

2nd Friday Norman Art Walk

On the second Friday of every month, the Norman Arts Council partners with community members and businesses to bring Norman to life. The dates for the rest of 2022 are:

  • August 12
  • September 9
  • October 14
  • November 11
  • December 9

The August 12 date will be from 6-9 p.m. and will primarily take place in the Walker Arts District and Downtown Norman. Free events include the Jacobson House Native Art Exhibit at the Depot Gallery, Maurice Johnson’s jazz performance at Sergio’s Italian Bistro, and OU student solos and duets at The Sooner Theatre. These are just a few of the outstanding art examples that will be taking place on August 12. Learn more about each stop on this art walk on their website!

Lake Thunderbird State Park

The Lake Thunderbird State Park is a gorgeous outdoor park full of campsites, picnic areas, boat ramps, and hiking and biking trails. Set aside a weekend to go fishing, boating, or swimming in the lake. Not one for water games? Spend a day hiking, horseback riding, or at the archery range. When it’s that time of year, you can deer hunt in the designated area. Make sure your truck is ready for hunting season. Even if you’re looking to get away for just a long drive, Lake Thunderbird has beautiful roads to cruise on. Learn more about Lake Thunderbird State Park.

Sooner Bowling Center

For more inside activities, bowling is a fun and competitive option. Sooner Bowling Center has 24 lanes open for bowling, a sports grill for food and drinks, and even an arcade. Sooner Bowl is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m.  Check out their website.

Looking for a road trip out of town? Take one in the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid!

Adventures don’t have to stop just because school has started back up and road trips don’t have to be miles and miles of “are we there yet.” We at Landers CDJR of Norman appreciate working in this community, and we want you to enjoy living in the area year-round.
