What to Know When You Need to Buy New Tires

Tires are one of the most important aspects of your vehicle’s safety, and an aspect which many drivers overlook. Think about it. Your several thousand-pound automobile is connected to the road solely by the four small patches of rubber directly under your tires. When you think about it like this, you can see why it’s imperative that your tires are always in good shape. Need to buy tires near Norman, Oklahoma? We have tires of all sizes and wheel diameters available today at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman, Oklahoma. Click here to inquire about getting yourself a new set of tires.

There are a few telltale signs your vehicle is in need of new tires, the first being too much vibration. Sure you’ll get vibrations on bad roads from time to time, but if your vehicle has a bad case of the shimmies, then you know something is wrong. Bring it to us and we’ll take a look and get you back on the road in no time!

Another very apparent sign of needing new tires is that there are bulges and blisters on your tire. This happens when the outer surface of your tire begins to weaken. This weak spot can cause a sudden blowout on the road, so if you see one of these pop up on your tires, call a service center immediately.

Cracks in the sidewall can happen if your tires are old or overused. These cracks can be seen when inspecting your tires so take a look every so often and make sure you’re crack-free! If the cracks are there for long enough, they can cause leaks or a blowout.

Finally, the easiest way to tell if you need new tires is by checking the tread depth. Your tread depth  should never fall below 1/16 of an inch and if you regularly drive on wet and slick surfaces — and who doesn’t? — it’s best to have double that. If you don’t have easy access to a tread depth indicator, use a penny to check your tread depth. Stick the penny in your tire’s tread with Lincoln’s head pointing down. If you can see Lincoln’s entire forehead, it’s time to schedule an appointment to get new tires installed.

We want everyone on the road to be as safe as possible and that can’t happen if drivers are unaware of safe tire practices.
