YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS

Movies might be one of humanity’s greatest inventions, helping us share the stories and lives of characters from history or who were invented from whole cloth. In many ways, the people behind the movies are just as fascinating as those on screen. Proving that truth, episode after episode, is the excellent podcast “You Must Remember This.” Researched and hosted by Karina Longworth, the colorful, insightful podcast explores the writers, actors, directors, studio moguls and others behind some of the most classic Hollywood movies of the 20th Century, giving the movies you love new depth and helping fans find new, forgotten classics to enjoy. Like true crime? Don’t miss her series on Charles Manson in Hollywood.

SPOOKED
Do you believe in Things That Go Bump in the Night? Have you ever experienced something you can’t explain, or had a person you trust tell you their tale of a real-life haunting? Ghost stories have been with us all the way back to the beginning of recorded history, and they are always a lot of fun and food for thought about What Lies Beyond. There’s nothing quite as spooky as a person telling you, quite rationally, that they have experienced something science says should not exist. That’s the idea behind the podcast “Spooked.” Hosted by Glen Washington, each episode of “Spooked” contains real-life people — including some celebrities — relating their allegedly-true stories of times when ghosts came calling. Spine-chillingly real and told by the people who lived it, “Spooked” is ghostly fun, but you’ll probably only want to listen while it’s light out. After dark, who knows what could be lurking in your backseat?!

SWINDLED
As P.T. Barnum famously said: there’s a sucker born every minute. While most of us would never try to take advantage of a person’s trusting nature or naivety, there are those who only see others as an opportunity to get ahead. Once they start seeing honest people as a source of income, some of their crimes beggar belief. Exploring the greatest cons, schemes, stings and swindles is the fertile ground explored every week by the excellent true-crime podcast “Swindled.” Researched and hosted in perfect deadpan by a person known only as “Concerned Citizen,” Swindled takes a deep dive into the minds, madness and motives behind some of the biggest frauds in American history, from the well-known to the very obscure. While it’s bound to make anybody with a trusting nature more cautious, it’s always entertaining, always well-researched, and always gives you plenty to think about to help roll off the miles.
