The Rio Race

When villain Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) shows up in Brazil, he challenges Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel), along with his buddy Diogo (Luis Da Silva Jr) and newcomer/Brazilian street racer Isabel Neves (Daniela Melchior), to a race, with the unforgettable villainous line, “That’s the problem with having such a big family. How do you choose the ones you save?” When the race starts, of course, Dom instinctively knows there are bombs under their cars. While Diogo sadly meets the fiery flames, Dom manages to save Isabel at the last possible second – in his sweet 1970s Dodge Charger.

The Chase Through Rome

One of our favorite over-the-top car scenes is when Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) and Han Lue (Sung Kang) try to stop the out-of-control semi by slamming their cars into either side, and Dom bumps the bomb off course with his signature Dodge Charger, shielding cafe-goers from an explosion by knocking a canopy down on them.

The Ending

Honestly, we think they saved the best for last. In a final battle, Dom punches his Dodge Charger in reverse out of a plane, landing on top of two SUVs traveling at top speed. Dante uses two helicopters in an attempt to steer Dom off the road. But then Dom, of course, fires up the Charger, and the force of the great Charger horsepower launches him over the bridge to the road below, where he crashes the two helicopters together. 

And just when we think the credits are about to roll, Dom is abruptly stopped on the Hoover Dam, trapped by Dante. Dom ends up launching his car down the side of the dam as the trucks explode, and he crashes into the water as they swim to safety, only to find Dante has rigged the dam to blow. We’re then left waiting for the next edition, and supposedly the last, of the series, and we can’t wait to see the Chargers in action again next time!
