Leading the Pack: Ram 1500 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 Engine Just Named to Wards 2019 10 Best Engines List
Debuting in the 2019 Ram 1500, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque was just named one of WardsAuto’s 10 Best Engines for 2019! Rated at a staggering 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, the mighty Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque helps improve overall fuel economy without sacrificing any performance. As of now, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque has a gas mileage rated at 20 miles per gallon in the city, 25 miles per gallon on the highway, equaling a total combined gas mileage of 22 miles per gallon while in rear-wheel drive. In four-wheel drive, the gas mileage decreases just a bit to 19 miles per gallon in the city, 24 miles per gallon on the highway, for a total combined gas mileage of 21 miles per gallon. This newly rated gas mileage is an 18% improvement for driving in the city, and a 10% improvement in the combined rating as well.
Drew Winter, Senior Content Director at WardsAuto, explains why this particular powertrain made the cut: “The Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque shows how electrifying components of conventional engines can create magic under the hood. The all-new 48-volt mild-hybrid eTorque system provides a dollop of electrical propulsion during launch and while shifting gears, creating seamless, buttery smooth power to the wheels and improved fuel economy. Our judges recorded 21 to 22 mpg, outstanding for a full-size, four-wheel-drive pickup. The power of the eTorque system also makes the Ram’s fuel-saving stop-start system work almost imperceptibly. It’s one of the best around.” Thanks to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque’s new and advanced technologies such as 2-step variable-valve lifet and wide-range variable valve-timing, the award-winning powertrain delivers an optimal blend of power and fuel economy totally based on the driver’s demand.
