Jeep: Hardtop Removal | Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman

It’s that time of year folks! Time to take the top off your Jeep Wrangler and enjoy the sunshine! Here at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman, we know that your Jeep’s hard top is one of the most expensive components and can be the most fragile as well. This crucial component can cost a pretty penny to fix or replace if damaged.

Removing the hard top of your Jeep Wrangler can be quite the adventure and possibly a scene out of Dumb and Dumber. There are numerous different avenues you can take when removing your hard top. Read on for just a few of them:

Hardtop Removal Options:

  1. One of our favorite options is the Hardtop hoist. Available through or other vehicle accessory websites, these systems attach to the roof of your garage or whatever space you store your Jeep Wrangler, and take all the heavy lifting out of removing your hardtop. Just drive under it, hook on, remove the bolts holding on your hardtop, turn the crank a few times and then drive out. Convenience is another awesome factor with the hoist systems, as you can even store it in your garage this way. Basically your top hangs there like a pinata but we don’t recommend hitting it for candy!) Allowing for even easier access when you need to put the top back on.

  2. Free Standing Hoists – These are the more affordable option to the Hardtop hoist. If you don’t have the room for the handy dandy Hardtop hoist, these Free Standing Hoists are super convenient for anyone. This standing cart uses the hoist to pull the hardtop off of your Jeep and itself is the storage unit for the hardtop.

You can always take the hardtop off your Jeep Wrangler manually, but do you really want to chance it? These two options can make your top usable a little bit longer and not waste any money. Here at Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman we would love to answer any of your questions regarding these systems. Make sure to give us a call and we can point you in the right direction.
